How a Sprachbau session works
Four steps, repeated daily. Each one is powered by the learning science on the method page.
1. Content is generated at your frontier
Sprachbau snapshots what you know, picks the next few words by frequency, and generates natural sentences constrained to that vocabulary. Every generated sentence is checked word-by-word against your allowed vocabulary — anything out of range is rejected and regenerated, so you're never blindsided by words you haven't met.
2. You review cloze cards
A sentence appears with one word blanked. You recall it, reveal the answer, and rate how it went (Again / Hard / Good / Easy). FSRS uses that rating to schedule the next review at the moment you're most likely to benefit. On mobile this runs fully offline.
3. You write, and get corrected
Free-form writing is graded into structure and surface errors, with a corrected version and a CEFR estimate. Structure errors — the systematic grammar mistakes — spawn targeted drill cards that fold straight back into your review queue.
4. Everything stays in sync
Reviews are append-only facts that sync opportunistically. The same FSRS parameters run on your phone and on the server, pinned to a version, so your schedule never drifts between devices.
